He has a Master’s degree in Employment, Employment Relationships and Social Dialogue from Universidad de Castilla – La Mancha (Spain); a Master’s degree in Labour Law and Social Security from Universidad Estatal a Distancia of Costa Rica; former scholar at ILO’s Latin American Experts Program on Employment Relationships, Universidad Castilla de la Mancha (Spain), and Universitá di Bologna (Italy).
He currently serves as Managing Partner at BDS Asesores and as Director of the National Wages Council. He has been awarded many recognitions including Chambers&Partners which has ranked him as the most recommended labour law attorney in Costa Rica for years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020; likewise, Best Lawyers recognized him as 2015 Lawyer of the Year on labour matters in Costa Rica.
Academically speaking, he has been a professor at Universidad de Costa Rica’s Law School since 1998 and professor of the master’s Program in Labour Law and Social Security at UNED since 2004.
He has penned several books (including “El Teletrabajo”, “Derechos Laborales Colectivos en el Sector Público”, “Todo lo que un gerente debe conocer del Derecho Laboral Costarricense” and “101 preguntas frecuentes en materia laboral”) and several papers addressed to the legal practice field.
He has participated as speaker in seminars and congresses on labour law topics, both locally and internationally, and is a permanent collaborator in labour topics for the opinion section of La Nación newspaper and for elempleo.com section of the same newspaper. As an expert in labour matters he is consulted by the Costa Rican media on a regular basis.
